shielding1Radiation Protection Materials

When Protection is required there is no substitute for skill & experience. complete line of products including lead backed gypsum wallboard, shielded doors and frame lining, shielded telescopic steel control view window frames, x-ray protective shielded glass, shielded control barriers, leadlined vision lites, clear pb acrylic and neutron shielded doors.

Protective Wall Systems

Lead-lined sheetrock is manufactured by applying and bonding a single unpierced sheet of lead to the appropriate length of gypsum board. Since sheet lead has very little inherent structural strength, most medical and industrial x-ray installations require that it be supported in this fashion. Alternatively, sheet lead may be laminated to provide a more rigid building material.

Leaded drywall sheets are available in sizes from 4' x 8' to a maximum 4' x 10' x minimum 5/8" thickness. Thinner drywall (1/2") is available, but not recommended. The lead lining on sheetrock or lead-lined gypsum boards ranges from 1/32" to 1/16" lead thickness. Drywall can be lined with 1/8" lead, although the heavy weight makes it inadvisable.

Lead and some of its alloys are generally the most cost effective radiation shielding materials to protect against the effects of gamma rays and x-rays. The properties of lead shielding which make it an excellent shielding material are its density, high atomic number, high level of stability, ease of fabrication, high degree of flexibility in application, and its availability.

Control Windows

LEAD LINED TELESCOPIC STEEL VIEW WINDOWS are fabricated with 16 gauge Jetcoat Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel, 1.58mm standard lead lining (Higher shielding ratings available upon request). These windows are manufactured for ease of installation in new rough opening after wallboard is installed or in existing retrofit cutout applications.

Available with X-RAY PROTECTIVE LEAD GLASS, standard 2.0+ mm lead equivalency single layer (higher lead equivalencies available upon request). And CLEAR Pb LEAD ACRYLIC by, in the following lead equivalencies: 0.3 mm (1/4" Acrylic Thickness), 0.5 mm (1/2" Acrylic Thickness), 0.8 mm (3/4" Acrylic Thickness), 1.0 mm (7/8" Acrylic Thickness), 1.5 mm (1-3/8" Acrylic Thickness), and 2.0 mm (1-7/8" Acrylic Thickness).
